The Louise, South Australia

Adventures, classic accommodation and fine dining in a wine-lover’s playground.

If you’re a morning person, you might enjoy something a little different when you stay at The Louise. It’s only a short dawn drive to a nearby conversation area, where you can settle down to enjoy breakfast with a family of kangaroos. Or you can soar over the valley on a hot-air balloon or helicopter ride, or maybe take a leisurely cycle through the local countryside.

And that’s before you get to visit any of the 100 vineyards or 70 boutique wine cellars in one of the most famous wine-producing regions in Australia. The staff are locals and know all the best spots, and they’ll be happy to arrange private tours, tastings and introductions to winemakers if you like.

The Louise itself is made up of 15 large, elegant, private suites, with special features like marbled ensuite bathrooms, private decks and outdoor rain showers. Unsurprisingly, the wine list at the onsite Appellation restaurant is excellent. We’re also big fans of Executive Chef Ryan Edward’s seasonal tasting menu, which changes daily.

The Louise is a one-hour drive from Adelaide. There’s also a helipad at the hotel, if you’re planning to arrive in style.
