Panoramic ocean views, five-star style and fine dining at the place to stay in Barbados.
Preferred destination of celebrities, politicians and royalty alike, Sandy Lane is the most iconic hotel on the island.
Set in a thick mahogany grove that runs right up to the white sand beach, every room has an ocean view. The only interruption from the ‘garden view’ suites is the tops of the mahogany trees swaying – which we don’t think is an interruption at all. Even the smallest of the rooms are spacious, with marble floors, fine furnishings and large private decks.
Don’t stay in your room though. Pack your clubs and hit the links on one of the hotel’s three championship-standard gold courses, including the world-famous Green Monkey. Or, for something a little less strenuous, you can visit the spa at Sandy Lane – which, with its marble reception and sweeping staircases, is a destination in itself and has been voted best in the Caribbean and 6th best worldwide.
When evening comes, our favourite spot to dine is the beachfront L’Acajou. You’ll listen to the lull of the ocean under a canopy of mahogany trees, and enjoy French and Mediterranean cuisine paired with new and old world wines from the hotel’s extensive wine cellar.
