On Kerala’s quiet northern coast just a few meters back from the crashing waves of the Arabian Sea is Neeleshwar Hermitage. One of India’s finest gems, with a fantastic spa and houseboat.
Rise with a morning yoga session, amble for miles along the palm fringed beaches, unwind in the spa with a range of treatments including Ayurveda and cool off in the magnificent pool while taking in the sea views and enjoying a refreshing ginger, lime and honey slush.
The 18 cottages are a mix of wood and thatch with contemporary touches and are scattered across the sprawling palm shaded lawns. All furniture has been beautifully handcrafted by locals and bathrooms are open to the sky.
Indulge in the delicious cuisine of Southern India, at Annapura the chefs highlight the incredible flavours while cooking skills are honed by ayurvedic teaching on the importance of the appearance, balance, flavour, enjoyment and nutritional effects of any dish. At Meenakshi on the beach you can enjoy a hearty Keralan breakfast, the Appam (similar to a pancake) with stew is divine, while superb fresh fish caught by the local long boats going out each morning can be enjoyed in the evenings.
The resort has their own rice barge the Lotus, we would recommend spending a few nights on board exploring the tranquil backwaters.
However you spend your time at Neeleshwar Hermitage you are guaranteed to leave with a sense of inner calm and some fancy yoga moves.
