A classic and comfortable camp in the heart of leopard country.
Find a peaceful and well-appointed seasonal tented camp perched above the Luangwa River that’s teeming with wildlife of all kinds. Head out into the dramatic landscape for unrivalled leopard sightings and watch vibrant bee-eaters fluttering from their nests in the riverbed. There is something to see at every turn, and what’s more, you can do it from the comfort of the camp.
Kakuli is one of the most northern camps in Zambia’s South Luangwa National Park. It is a simple but charming bush camp that is one of our favourites in the South Luangwa. Renowned for its walking safaris, just like the rest of camps in the Norman Carr family, and walking near the confluence of the Luwi River is unmissable.
Set on the banks of the Laungwa itself, Kakuli has just four tented chalets with open-air bathrooms and wonderful views of the river, where hippos bob past. Head out from here not only for excellent walking, but both daytime and night-time game drives. The area seems to get great leopard sightings and is known for large lion prides.
