Gora Kadan Hakone, Hakone

Japan

Unwind in style at an authentic Japanese inn in the peaceful Hakone National Park.

Gora Kadan is a traditional Japanese ‘Ryokan’, or inn, run by the Relais & Chateau Group. Which means you get to blend the authentic Japanese experience of living like a local, with the guaranteed panache of Relais & Chateau. And Gora Kadan is certainly an elegant destination – the main building used to be the summer residence of the Kaninnomiya imperial family. You’ll find it in the heart of Hakone National Park, to the west of Tokyo, which is also home to the iconic Mount Fuji.

It’s all about a real taste of Japanese life at Gora Kadan. Spend the day wandering through the outdoor sculpture park, a relaxing counterpoint to the bustle of Tokyo. Then visit the famed hot spring baths to unwind entirely. Gora Kadan has two wells which provide hot, mineral-rich spring water to their open air baths. A long soak is great for the skin, and an ideal preparation for a massage at the Japanese spa.

In the evening, you’ll be served a traditional multi-course meal, called ‘Kaiseki’. Then you’ll retire to your room, where you’ll find tatami floors and picturesque Japanese gardens. Many of the rooms also feature open-air baths or jacuzzis, where you can sink into the warm water and admire the scenery of the surrounding green hills.
