An endless skyline, up-close encounters with gorillas and cosy private cottages.
The view from the Clouds Mountain Gorilla Lodge is spectacular. You’re over 2000m up at the highest lodge in the Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, and we think it’s the best vantage point you can find. Look through the picture windows in the main lodge building and you’ll see the Virunga volcanoes glow red at night, mountains in the distance, and the sweltering primordial Bwindi forest spread out across the hills below.
Then when morning comes, you’ll head out on a short walk to the Nkuringo trail – and it’s time to track gorillas.
The lodge itself is cosy and comfortable – no pitched tents and scratchy mattresses here. Private cottages, each one made of volcanic stone, feature works of art from some of Uganda’s most celebrated artists. There’s a large sitting room with fireplace, comfy stuffed armchairs and hand-woven carpets. The feel is almost chalet-like, with a private butler service to launder your clothes and light fires for you. Much of the food cooked fresh in the kitchen comes from the lodge’s own organic fruit and vegetable garden.
Seeing gorillas is obviously high on your agenda, but the lodge also has beauty treatments, massage and the chance to take part in local community activities.
