Immerse yourself in a wild bush story
For an outback adventure of the most spectacular kind, it has to be Arkaba. Privacy and peace are guaranteed, with 60,000 acres of dramatic terrain shared by just ten guests. Flanked by the Elder and Chase Ranges, this is wild South Australia at its best.
Morning is a real treat here. You’ll see the sun creeping over the landscape from your breakfast table while singing galahs in the Arkaba Creek are the only things that break the quiet. In the midday heat, nothing beats cooling off in the pool and soaking up the sun on the deck. And after a day spotting kangaroos and wallabies in the bush, trading stories over a crackling fire pit while a blanket of stars appear above is our favourite end to the day.
Once a sheep station and now a private conservancy, here you can immerse yourself in the history of the bush. The ancient and striking geology is forever on show and diverse wildlife calls the place home. You can explore with an expert guide and experience it all with safari drives and walking tours.
The Homestead comprises a handful of en suite bedrooms that combine luxury with the property’s pioneering past. You will find wool sack-wrapped bedside tables to sheepskin hot-water bottles. The cosy and inviting space feels more like a friend’s house than a hotel. Shaded verandas offer arresting views of the magical mountains. For even more privacy, the Coach House lets you unwind in a secluded stone cottage and idyllic garden.
