Creature comforts in a chic camp setting, with the jungle and the ocean on your doorstep.
Amanwana means ‘peaceful forest’, and as you gaze out over the turquoise Flores Sea from your Ocean tent, or listen to the breeze rustle the trees from your Jungle tent, it’s easy to see why. Amanwana is the only resort on the unspoilt Moyo Island, with 20 permanently pitched canvas tents set between the dense jungle foliage of the nature reserve and the white sand beach.
Each tent is solidly built, with hardwood floors and walls below the canvas, pairing the best of outdoor living with modern comforts. If you tiptoe and keep quiet in the morning, you might spot macaque monkeys or rusa deer outside your window.
Amanwana is especially suited to diving and snorkelling fans, being only around ten minutes from sites with vibrant coral reefs and teeming sea life. On land, there are plenty of hiking trails criss-crossing the hills – look out for the cave of bats.
When the adventures are done, you can relax at the beachside Jungle Cova Spa with an open air massage shaded by fig, date and tamarind trees. And when evening falls, the chef will serve up a mix of Asian and Western dishes in the open-sided bamboo-roofed pavilion. Or at a private fire-lit meal on the beach, if you prefer.
