Classic China

China

Explore the Hutongs of Beijing. Discover the fairy-tale karst pinnacles around Yangshuo. Enjoy a champagne breakfast on the Great Wall of China. On this classic China adventure, you’ll discover a magnificently diverse country full of surprises.

Beijing Fling

Your first stop is Beijing, a city of the future inextricably linked to its fascinating past. Wander through the imposing Forbidden City, where emperors ruled for 500 years. Rise early to catch the daily flag raising ceremony at Tiananmen Square or cycle the ancient lanes, known as Hutongs, like a true local. We’ll also arrange a guided day-trip for you to explore a remote stretch of the Great Wall of China – an unmissable highlight. Spend three nights at the Aman Summer Palace. With its own back door into the Summer Palace gardens, you can avoid the crowds by visiting dawn and dusk.

Terracotta Army

Ride the bullet train to the old capital of Xi’an for a two-night stay. Here, you’ll unlock the secrets of China’s ancient civilisations in a city that countless emperors called home. Look on in wonder at the rows upon rows of Terracotta Warriors, which have stood proudly to attention for centuries. Then, walk along the glass floors of the Hanyang Tombs to glimpse the treasures archaeologists have unearthed below.

Scenic Serenity

A change of pace comes next, as you fly to Guilin and transfer to Alila Yangshuo for a three-night stay amid some of China’s most beautiful scenery. The Longji Rice terraces wind up the mountainside, creating spectacular views that change with the seasons.  Take a cruise along the Li River, where you’ll see farmers tending to their rice paddies as limestone karst formations frame the horizon. Stop at a small village and meet a local family to get a real insight into their lives, or if you’re feeling active you can go cycling along the riverbank past lush bamboo groves.

Shanghai sights

Your journey concludes with three nights in Shanghai, China’s largest and most cosmopolitan city. Take a stroll past the colonial-era buildings of the Bund’s waterfront promenade. Discover the hidden gems of the French Concession’s charming tree-lined streets – its winding lanes and unmarked doors are home to some of the best cafes in the city. As night falls, head to the world’s highest observation deck at the Shanghai World financial centre for a bird’s eye view of the twinkling cityscape.
