South Africa for Families

South Africa

For a taste of this enthralling country, we recommend this simplified itinerary. Incorporating exciting city adventures, space, mountains and scenery..not to mention wildlife, all wrapped up in some spectacular scenery but without too much moving around.

Captivating Cape Town

Arrive in South Africa’s most cosmopolitan city, Cape Town for four nights where you will stay in the perfect family-friendly base from which to explore all that the thriving city has to offer. South Africa’s finest city is packed with things to see and do: not only is a family friendly day out with a private guide built into your itinerary, but you have the option to tailor this as you wish, according to the likes of your little adventurers. Expect treasure hunts in the Botanical Gardens, canopy walks, forest hikes, rogue penguins and secret beaches to be part of the fun.

Fun on the farm

Next, an hour’s drive to the Winelands for an authentic farmstay experience. Within the vineyards and orchards of the Drakenstein Valley, Babylonstoren’s scenery is spellbinding. Parents can kick back and relax at this sophisticated working wine farm, sampling the produce while the children run free in lovely gardens. Eat, drink and be pampered or fill your days by getting involved with the daily workings of the farm – picking grapes, baking bread in the bakery, harvesting honey or helping the duck herder and his herd of hundreds out into the vineyards to organically help clear the vines from snails.

Malaria-free big five

Its then on to the Eastern Cape to complete your South African adventure with a 4-night stay at Kwandwe Private Game Reserve. Children are welcome to join the daily game drives, which take place at dawn and dusk – the best time to spot lion, elephant and other animals from the open safari vehicles. Stay in an especially designed family suite where a private vehicle, ranger and tracker come as standard – always handy with overexcited little ones when they see their first giraffe. If some adult-only time appeals, a nanny is on hand to look after little ones while you lounge by the pool for afternoon siesta.

After this unforgettable finale, transfer to Port Elizabeth for your return flight home via Johannesburg. You could even extend by adding in some time at the beach at nearby Plettenberg Bay, or further afield in tropical Mauritius.
