Classic Antarctica Air-Cruise

From the moment you set foot on your Antarctic expedition cruise, it’s very clear that you are in the wildest of frontiers. This exhilarating air cruise itinerary showcases the very best of the great white continent, and is packed with unforgettable moments. You’ll see mammoth glaciers rising from the sea, visit vast colonies of majestic penguins up close, and zip through icy waters on an inflatable Zodiac dinghy. Bundle up warm and brace yourself for the adventure of a lifetime.

Santiago & Vineyards

Touchdown in the Chile’s cosmopolitan capital Santiago for a couple of days exploring its barrios, museums and street markets. Enjoy an escorted city tour exploring the historic Plaza de Armas, with its impressive presidential palace and Metropolitan Cathedral, before delving into Chilean cultural history at the Pre-Columbian Art Museum. Whether you’re tasting Chilean King Crab, ceviche or some of the world’s best beef, the food here can be world class. Then, travel for two hours through Andean hills to visit some of Chile’s best wineries. Base yourself at Viña Vik for cutting-edge architecture and great facilities in a beautiful vineyard setting.

The Gateway to Antarctica

Return to Santiago, where a four-hour flight south takes you to Punta Arenas, Chile’s southernmost city and the gateway to Antarctica. Located in the Straits of Magellan, where the Pacific Ocean meets the Atlantic, you’ll join the ranks of explorers, trailblazers and frontier dwellers who have passed through here over the centuries. You’ll be introduced to your guides at a pre-cruise briefing, before a welcome dinner at which you’ll meet your fellow guests.

Into The White

Your Antarctic adventure begins with a two-hour flight from Punta Arenas to King George Island in the South Shetland Islands. As you exit the aeroplane, the clear Antarctic air will fill your lungs for the first time. Explore the area surrounding Chile’s Frei Station and Russia’s Bellingshausen Station, before boarding an inflatable Zodiac to embark your expedition vessel.

Spend the next six days exploring the icy waters, as you cruise between the South Shetland Islands and the western coast of the Antarctic Peninsula. Sail along ice-filled fjords and up close with spectacular icebergs, while enjoying the company of whales, penguins, seals and sea birds. Enjoy daily Zodiac shore excursions to explore the landscape alongside expert polar guides. When back on board, there’s an engaging programme of lectures and presentations to attend, not to mention spectacular views from the lounge.

Whilst the exact itinerary changes with each expedition, your cruise will offer the best possible overview of the varied Antarctic environment. Visits to sites such as Paulet Island, Hope Bay, Port Lockroy, Petermann Island, Paradise Bay, Deception Island and the Lemaire Channel are all possibilities.

After an unforgettable cruise, you’ll fly back to Punta Arenas and then on to Santiago before heading home. If you’ve got time, we’d always recommend extending your stay in Chile to explore yet more its staggeringly diverse landscapes.
