Drive the Californian coast south, from San Francisco’s Golden Gate to Los Angeles’ golden beaches.
Turn California dreaming into a reality on this classic coastal road trip. You’ll begin by exploring vibrant San Francisco and sipping wine in Napa. Then cruise south, with the ocean to your right and the sun on your face, all the way to Santa Barbara and Los Angeles.
The City by The Bay
Your adventure starts with three nights in buzzing San Francisco. Ride the historic cable car to bustling Fisherman’s Wharf, where you’ll see the sea lions basking at Pier 39, before taking a tour of infamous Alcatraz Island. Cruise under or cycle over the iconic Golden Gate Bridge, then dine on dim sum in the largest Chinatown outside of Asia.
Napa Valley Vintage
Next, you’ll collect your car and drive north to the vineyards of the Napa Valley for a two-night stay. Soar above the valley’s rolling hills on a sunrise hot air balloon flight as light shimmers on the grapevines, before descending for a romantic champagne breakfast. You’ll learn about the wine’s story from grape to bottle while visiting small artisan producers for private tastings.
Drive south and join Highway One for the coastal route to Big Sur, where you stay for three nights overlooking the ocean. While it may be tempting to not venture far from the fiery sunset views and fine dining, we urge you to explore. Go hiking in redwood forests, spot marine wildlife on coastal paths, visit quaint towns like colourful Carmel or enjoy a round of golf at Pebble Beach.
Stylish Santa Barbara
Your next stop for two nights is the wide, golden beaches and Spanish style buildings of chic Santa Barbara. Spend your time watching the local surfers at Stearns Wharf, discovering nearby vineyards and villages, and feasting in the town’s tempting array of fine restaurants.
City of Angels
Round things off with a three-night stay in sun-kissed Los Angeles, where we recommend basing yourself on the sands of Santa Monica for a taste of beachside glamour. See the Hollywood sign, browse the upscale boutiques of Beverly Hills, or head to Universal Studios and Disneyland for theme park fun. End your days with cocktail in hand, overlooking the perfect Pacific sunset. Just another day in California.
