THE LUXURY OF PRIVACY
A secluded spot occupying a beautiful part of the planet is a coveted new luxury. Even better we can help with all the extras including private transfers, chefs, staff, guides, tennis instructors and nannies.

Bequia Villas - Bequia, Caribbean
Known as one of the quieter and more laid-back Caribbean islands, Bequia, located within the pretty string of Grenadine Islands, is the one to head to for a slice of peaceful Caribbean life, where locals and visitors alike enjoy the warm azure seas, bendy tropical palms and lightly spiced food.
Bequia Beach Hotel has been our favourite property on the island for a while, so we’re delighted to hear about their brand new villas which are located just one km from the resort. Occupying an enviable position overlooking Friendship Bay, one of the islands most pristine and naturally beautiful beaches, the villas are clasped in a secluded spot overlooking a specular crescent-shaped beach with views stretching out towards Grenadine and Mustique. There is plenty of space to relax and spread out as each villa boasts a private pool, sun terrace and lush gardens – and although the beach is walking distance, you’ll be given a complimentary 4×4 vehicle so that you can head to the resort for dinner or explore the island’s many beaches, characterful restaurants and breezy bars.
“With daily breakfast included and a private butler to arrange barbecue dinners, boat trips and in-villa spa treatments, all you’ll need to do is sit back and enjoy your own private space, surrounded by idyllic Caribbean panoramas.”
The two villas have four and five bedrooms respectively, so either are perfect for long stays, families and groups. For the ultimate Grenadines getaway, why not hire both for an extended family or friends’ celebration?
Arijiju - Borana, Kenya
Practically indistinguishable from the surrounding landscapes by its flat grass roof and locally hewn stone, Arijiju is a masterpiece in intelligent design, carved into a rocky hillside on the Lewa Borana Conservancy in Kenya. An architectural project that took ten years in the making, this startling African lodge benefits from the region’s ‘holy trinity’: sunrise, sunset and Mount Kenya as well as an extremely high level of service and chic, minimalist interiors.
Sleeping ten, yet with a staff of 20, Arijiju was inspired by the rocky churches of Ethiopia, and inside, the five spacious bedrooms, cinema, library, living area and dining room come with an earthy colour palette furnished with local materials and accents of copper. Every day, plan your own safari, using a combination of 4×4 game drives, mountain and quad bikes, on foot or a specially curated running safari. Expect to be utterly wowed by Laikipia’s diversity with mountains, dense forests and sprawling deserts home to the coveted Big Five, as well as Grevy Zebra, reticulated giraffe and cheetah. Fuel up with homegrown fruits, African-inspired salads and local meats at mealtimes – either in the bush or on the lodge’s rooftop dining space, then perhaps head further afield, to whizz through the Ndare Ngare forest on aerial bridges, glide above hippo and crocodile on the Esawo river or soar over dormant volcano craters by helicopter.
“With a pioneering approach to conservation, this style-laden private hire house is an unforgettable way to immerse yourself in the staggering landscapes of the Borana Conservancy.”
Perfect for serious safari lovers who have an appreciation for good architectural design, Arijiju is also an exceptional health and wellness destination with a tennis court, squash court, gym, yoga Shala, hammam and spa treatment room, plus three spa therapists are on-hand for daily treatments.
LUX* Grand Baie Residences - Mauritius
Set to open in late 2021, this new hideaway promises to offer modern-luxe tropical living on one of Mauritius’ most beautiful beaches, all within a stones throw of Grand Baie village itself.
The contemporary LUX* Grand Baie’s modern design juxtaposes with the natural beauty of the coastline where cuboid villas peek out of greenery with views onto the sheltered turquoise lagoon of Grand Baie. There are larger residences too which exemplify a modernist aesthetic with white-on-white design, swathes of chunky marble, standalone tubs, terrazzo-tiled bathrooms, designer lighting and wide terraces edged by palm trees – with the largest, Grand Beach Villa, set over two floors with three bedrooms, its own chef and outdoor barbecue.
When you’re not luxuriating in style, you’ll enjoy time on the white sand beach, and kids of all ages will love the range of activities from the ‘ice cream lab’, to junior yoga, windsurfing, DJ decks and vintage gaming. Come sunset, there’s the cool, day-to-night Beach Rouge bar and restaurant which glows an exotic red come nightfall, Japanese restaurant Ai KISU which has its own soya sauce sommelier, plus zingy cocktails and authentic Warayaki straw fire cooking.
“Ideally located on one of Mauritius’ finest beaches facing the palm-fringed azure lagoon of Grand Baie, the chic yet modern aesthetic of LUX* Grand Baie means this is luxe tropical living at its very best.”
We’d recommend the spacious residences to families with kids of all ages looking for a high-quality resort experience, from its cool, minimalist design to the delectable food, wide-ranging activities and attentive service.
Verdura Villas - Sicily
Hitting the sweet spot between the privacy and space of a villa and the luxe convenience of a five-star resort, the new villas at Verdura give you the chance to ‘have it all’. Tethered to an idyllic part of Sicily’s south west coast, the Rocce Forte villas have uninterrupted views of the Mediterranean Sea, which you can lap up from your private infinity swimming pool. The resort is just a stroll away – or you can use your own golf buggy or e-bike – with its restaurants, private beach club, tennis courts, golf course and spa.
Inside the villas, open plan living areas give the feel of space and light, with colourful accents coming from geometric patterned rugs and velvet mid-century furniture. With a choice of three or four bedrooms, the villas can easily absorb family groups and the well-equipped kitchen means you can be self-sufficient when you need, (the welcome bottle of Sicilian sparkling wine is particularly thoughtful). Daily breakfast is provided at the resort, and a private chef is available to rustle up a barbecue or special meal. Talk to us about hiring a car to explore the island – Sicily’s combination of stunning beaches, smouldering volcano and temple-littered towns is a heady mix.
“Having choice is what luxury holidays are all about. At Verdura, you can choose to dip in and out of the five-star resort, while retaining privacy and seclusion at your well-appointed villa. The best of both worlds.”
We think Verdura Villas would make a fantastic family summer holiday. The villas are spacious enough to accommodate two or even three generations, and Sicily has so much to interest all ages from Mount Etna to cities rich in history, mouth-watering gelato to beaches lapped by impossibly blue water.
Bawah Reserve - Anambas Archipelago, Indonesia
We’ve all had fantasies about playing castaway on a tropical island and now you could be one step closer to making it a reality. Beautiful Indonesian resort Bawah Reserve has developed its sister island Elang to become a standalone island destination, to enjoy with just you and your chosen friends and family. Here you can really experience a deserted idyll lapped by crystalline water flitting with marine life, with all the luxe trappings of neighbouring island Bawah, of course.
The reality is that you’re only a minute’s speed boat away from the main island resort but significantly, although you can access Bawah Reserve at will, the island of Elang stays exclusively yours. Six cliffside lodges strung along the edge of the island make up the accommodation, allowing for privacy plus there’s a butler for your needs and whims. Elsewhere on the island your group can gather on the powder soft beach, play tennis, enjoy lunches and dinners at the open-air dining pavilion or splash around the pool, complete with slide. As it’s your island, you can tailor it to how you like it. Morning yoga, breakfast on the beach, sunset sailing or scuba diving are all options as are daily spa treatments and meditation sessions. This is paradise reimagined by you.
“Located in Indonesia’s remote Anambas archipelago, this distinctive private island experience sets a whole new standard in personalised holidays. With your own island to call home, you really won’t want to leave.”
We think this would make one incredible celebration holiday – either for a landmark birthday or anniversary. Due to long journey times, we would probably not recommend it for younger children and babies.
