WHAT
Take a trip to Italy and experience two very different sides to this diverse country. One thing’s for sure – wherever you go, you’ll find fine food and wine – it's Italy after all.
WHEN TO GO
Anytime between June and September for the best hiking conditions in the Dolomites.
BEST FOR
We’ve discovered that this trip works particularly well for adventurous families. After culture in Venice, you’ll find hiking, rafting and biking in the Dolomites. For an exhilarating day out, day experience the Via Ferrata, a system of iron ladders on steep mountainous terrain, originally built and used by WWI soldiers.
GETTING THERE
There are several airlines flying direct to Venice from various UK airports. The Dolomites are located approximately 3 hours by road from Venice or 2 hours from Innsbruck.
A World of Venice
Start your trip with four days to get to know the watery world of Venice. There’s much to see and do but a walking tour will help you slow down, so you can take in all the big and little details of canal life, historical squares and famed churches, and with a private guide by your side, you’ll be able to ask as many questions as you like.
From St Mark’s square, have an introduction to the most powerful maritime empire of the Mediterranean Sea. The Doges’ Palace, the Square, the Basilica are highlights and San Zaccaria is considered to be one of the most beautiful churches of Venice. Make time to zip around the islands of the lagoon in a vaporetto, visiting Murano for its renowned glassware and Burano for its brightly-hued fishing community and seafood restaurants.
STAY: Ca’Sagredo
You’ll stay at the elegant and museum-like Ca’Sagredo, overlooking the Grand Hotel and perfectly placed for taking a water taxi into the heart of Venice. This 15th-century Palace has not only been declared a National Monument as it preserves the grandeur of a noble residence, but it also oozes romance, storybook scenes, and artwork that’ll dazzle you for days to come. Spend quiet afternoons in the frescoed lounge before retiring for the day in one of their 42 uniquely decorated bedrooms, each designed in classic Venetian style with period furnishings and rich fabrics, creating an atmosphere that will make you feel like a King or Queen. Make sure to spend your evenings with excellent company and dreamy views at the hotel’s panoramic waterside L’Alcova restaurant, where dishes truly celebrate the magic of Italian cuisine.
Alpine Adventure
We’ll organise your hire car, so all you need to do is pick it up and head up into the mountains. Drive to San Cassiano, a place where rocks, spires, and meadows combine to offer the perfect base to explore the Dolomites. At the foot of the Lavarela and Conturines massifs, San Cassiano boasts the splendour of the mountains everywhere you look, and numerous excellent hiking trails are available within the Fanes-Senes-Braies Nature Park, ranging from gentle meadow paths to challenging high-altitude routes.
Stay: Aman Rosa Alpina
Base yourself at Aman Rosa Alpina. Set in the charming village of San Cassiano, surrounded by the majestic, UNESCO-protected Dolomites, Aman Rosa Alpina is a luxurious mountain retreat ideal for unforgettable family getaways year-round. Following a complete redesign by architect Jean-Michel Gathy, the resort has reopened under Aman’s banner, now led by the third generation of the Pizzinini family. The hotel blends Aman’s signature tranquillity, intuitive service, and privacy with a wealth of family-friendly amenities. Cosy rooms offer sweeping mountain views, while a private two-suite residence accommodates up to four guests. With direct access to 1,200 km of Alpine terrain, enjoy hiking, biking, and climbing in summer.
Onsite, spend time together in one of the three private cinemas, a games room for all ages, or the serene spa with three pools, a jacuzzi, and treatment rooms rooted in local healing traditions. Evenings bring exquisite restaurants – from artisanal pizzas at the grill for kids, to wine tastings in the cellar-style library for adults. A Japanese Shabu Shabu experience will debut later this year.
Mountain Hideout
Take your trip to the next level with a micro-adventure, via a private guided hike in the Dolomites, finishing off with a stay in an isolated rifugio, completely removed from the rest of the world. On your hike you’ll explore the area of Cinque Torri-Averau where there’s a WW1 open air museum, traverse flower-strewn meadows and ascend the lofty peaks. Then onwards to one of the highest and most remote hotels in the Dolomites.
Here’s the place to experience the silence and majesty of the mountains, while enjoying wholesome food and wine and warm Italian hospitality. Come back to Aman Rosa Alpina, book yourself some time in the spa or wander the boutique town of San Cassiano for shopping and people-watching.
