Owner's Villa at Delaire Graff Estate

Clasped by the lush valleys and majestic mountains of the Cape Winelands, the Owner’s Villa is a highly refined and secluded stay.

For wine-lovers and those that appreciate serene landscapes, a visit to South Africa’s winelands is a must. We’d recommend staying at the Owners Villa at the upmarket Delaire Graff Estate, set in the heart of Stellenbosch’s wine country; one of the most exclusive ways to enjoy the Cape Winelands. Expect a vast private residence, tastefully decorated with art from Laurence Graff’s personal collection, full provision of staff and dreamy views over the vineyards to Table Mountain and False Bay beyond.

“Since the Dutch settled here in the 17th century, its fertile soils and microclimate have been the ideal setting for producing wine. Today, the Delaire Graff Estate is named as one of the World’s Best Vineyards and the height-of-luxe Owner’s Villa is perfectly placed to enjoy tastings of Bordeaux reds and chardonnay grapes and soak up scenic landscapes of Stellenbosch.”

Things to do

Arriving at the Owner’s Villa, you’ll find the mind-expanding views, peaceful atmosphere and promise of great food and wine enough to allow yourself to sink into a padded lounger poolside and begin to unwind. With attentive service which seems telepathic, it really is the place to relax and be looked after. If you need further pampering, ask your butler to book you into the spa for an African botanical candle massage, where you can blend your own botanical scrub sourced from the garden.

Be sure to leave time for the main event: wine tasting in the elegant Wine Lounge with a wine tutor. Sample Delaire Graff’s finest vintages alongside locally sourced charcuterie and cheese. Back at the Owner’s Villa take yourself on a tour of Laurence Graff’s favourite artists on show within your home including outstanding African artists such as Yves Dana and Jabu Nala.

Sleeping

Set over two floors, the Owner’s Villa has four large bedrooms, each furnished to a very high standard. Extremely spacious and elegant, the bedrooms come with their own dressing rooms, walk-in wardrobes and bathrooms hewn from marble. Particularly special are the private terraces with shady iroko wood pergolas facing panoramic views.

Food & Drink

At the Owner’s Villa, all meals are provided for you to enjoy either al fresco under the shady loggia or within the smart dining room, alongside impressive art and a flickering fire. Peruse menus with the chef to create your perfect meals, or as it suits you, leave it in the very capable hands of your team – the skillful chef, private butler and personal concierge. We love the ritual of canapes and champagne served at sunset, celebrating the day’s close over gold-tinged mountain views. As you might expect, drinking wine is taken seriously here – spend time in your walk-in wine cellar to choose your preferred vintage.

What Stands Out

We certainly think this villa makes an alluring intersection between world-class wines, soul-stirring views and absolute serenity in a gorgeous part of of the winelands. The intriguing aspect of Laurence Graff’s personal art collection makes this a cut above. Being able to admire famous art works in the comfort of your own home is a true luxury.

Best For

Those with a discerning eye will appreciate all that the Delaire Graff Estate has to offer. Certainly, oenophiles will love getting under the skin of the estate’s wine-making processes and its results, yet a family would also be extremely content and well looked after in this beautiful and peaceful corner of Cape Winelands. This private space, with its own infinity pool, jacuzzi, steam room and gym is ideal for those that like a high standard of living.

The Verdict

The Cape Winelands makes a wonderful part of an itinerary exploring the diversity of South Africa. With a chance to stay on the famed Delaire Graff Estate, in the Owner’s Villa no less makes this a special way to learn abut South Africa’s wine whilse being extremely well looked after.
