The review:

Ol Malo, Kenya

Intoxicating safari lodge on Kenya’s high plateau

Ol Malo perches on the cliffs of the Laikipia Plateau, overlooking a panoramic skyline of untouched valleys teeming with wildlife. This is Kenya’s original luxury bush home with all the activities you can imagine.

“Incredible wildlife in astounding landscapes, explorable by everything from horseback to helicopter. Ol Malo is a luxury lodge where luxury is the definition of space and of belonging to the landscape”

Things to do

When staying at Ol Malo, Laikipia becomes your playground. Take to the skies in the owner’s helicopter, gallop across the savannah through herds of zebra or move at a slower pace and soak up the expansive vistas at each turn. The safari on offer is world class with a real sense of purpose.

Sleeping

Just a handful of thatched rondaval cottages cling to the cliff top offering exceptional comfort, Kenya old-world charm and sweeping views. For larger families, take Ol Malo house in exclusivity with staff who have worked here for generations

Food & Drink

The food on safari is legendary and non-better than at Ol Malo with exceptional attention to detail for everything from snacks at sundowners to expansive bush breakfasts on pristine white tablecloths.  Expect classic East African cuisine with a twist, barbecued fresh fish from the coast, along with the freshest vegetables from the lodge gardens and delicious ripe fruits.

What Stands Out

Ol Malo has been within the same family for over 100 years and that sense of time and place keeps this lodge’s feet truly on the ground. Refreshingly enthusiastic hosts make you feel like you are part of the family, sharing this extraordinary place.

Best For

Everyone from honeymooners to active families will be utterly entranced by Ol Malo. Exceptional safari in a mind-blowing landscape with so many activities on offer that it’s hard to leave.

The Verdict

Ol Malo eschews the contemporary glass and chrome of modern lodges and relies on its more organic experiences borne out of a century of family ownership. The guiding is first rate, the sense of place is firmly rooted in providing exceptional traditional safari with huge conservation credentials as well as the modern twists of helicopters to explore further afield. Impossible not to rate this lodge incredibly highly.
