Think castaway – lushly forested hills, turquoise waters and soft white-sand beaches – but with helicopter transfers and fine earthy linens. A retinue of staff greet you like long-lost friends and are there to make sure whatever you want is possible. On North Island, it’s all about privacy and relaxation, doing as much or as little as you want.
Things to do
With a discreet personal butler to organise a private picnic by your pool, you might not want to leave your villa. But when you want to explore either hop on your bike or your Mercedes buggy to seek out the panoramic spa or head to the PADI dive centre for some diving or snorkelling. The island has compelling conservation credentials, so a private guided hike is a great way to explore the flora and fauna as well as orientate yourself.
There are just 11 private villas, all set along one of the island’s four gorgeous beaches. Beneath the thatched roofs you’ll find draped four-poster beds, inviting bath tubs and an enormous amount of space. If you want to push the boat out, go for number 11 (Villa North) which is around twice the size of the others. You won’t be disappointed with any of them though, as they are all incredible, with expansive interior and exterior spaces that make the most of the tropical climate.
Food & Drink
Exquisite, especially considering the remote location, and all individually tailored to you. You won’t find menus as almost anything is possible: a Creole curry with octopus, champagne and barbecue on the beach or just pizza by your pool. Really, whatever takes your fancy. The chef will have a chat with you on day one to make sure all of your favourites are noted.
What Stands Out
With just a little bit of notice, your wish is their command and any whim can be catered for. It’s modern day Robinson Crusoe and as though being in a dream. Tailored experiences such as candle-lit beach dinners or tapas and cocktails on West Beach as the sun sets are truly remarkable. You will never want to leave, but when you do, you’ll be planning to return.
