WILDLIFE WONDER

Tembo Plains - Zimbabwe
When African conservation specialists Great Plains discovered a hunting ground near Mana Pools in Zimbabwe littered with animal bones, it became their mission to restore the 200,000 acres of land, allowing wildlife to return to the riverine forests that make up the newly formed Sapi Private Reserve. After four years, building work began on the banks of the Zambezi and luxury camp Tembo Plains was born.
With tembo meaning elephant in Swahili, there was never any doubt that the camp would put conservation at its heart. Raised above ground, the wooden structures allow elephants to pass through to prime drinking spots along the banks of the Zambezi River. Like Great Plains’ other camps Mara Plains in Kenya and Duba Plains in Botswana, its commitment to community and sustainability is high on the agenda. The camp is a new standard of luxury in this wilderness enclave with colonial-style tents which are large and lavish, using a combination of canvas and stone walls, and weathered Zanzibar doors giving a wow-factor entry. There are handmade bathtubs inside and outdoor showers, and you’re given the use of Canon cameras and lenses and Leica binoculars for your stay, which come in handy on safari for spotting the plethora of wildlife including wild dog, leopard, lion and of course, tembo.
“By staying in a Great Plains camp, you support their admirable ethos to put conservation at the heart of everything they do. This is a wonderfully meaningful safari from their light-foot camps, community initiatives and green technology.”
NEED TO KNOW
Great Plains established the Sapi Private Reserve, truly one of the most scenic spots in Africa to view wildlife. Overlooking the Zambezi, elephants bathe in the water, and the adjoining Mana Pools National park can be accessed to explore the 337,000 hectares UNESCO World Heritage Site.
CULTURAL OUTPOST

Bishops Lodge - Santa Fe, New Mexico
Bishop’s Lodge is a sensitive heritage restoration, clasped in the natural beauty of the Santa Fe National Forest and bordered by the cultural and artistic town of Santa Fe. With this powerful meeting of nature and art, guests are encouraged to slow down and engage with every element that makes this landmark property such an interesting stay. Situated on 317 private acres in the Sangre de Cristo Mountain Range, this peaceful retreat is the place to immerse yourself in the cultural landscape with soulful activities such as outdoor art classes, yoga by moonlight, sunset horse rides with craft mezcal cocktails stops, native trout fishing or learning about New Mexico’s fascinating culture on a guided pueblo tour.
Come back to Bishop’s Lodge with an appreciation of all things local such as the structure which has been created using traditional smooth-walled adobe architecture, in a nod to New Mexico heritage; and the interior, driven by the local artistic scene from Santa Fe, where artisans provided textiles, weaves, ceramics and woodwork to dust the communal spaces. Dining here is a highlight, whether it’s a cowboy cookout with steaks or a refined dinner at SkyFire, enjoying southwestern specialities such as wood-fired meat and corn, crafted cocktails and red chilli sauces.
“Feel your horizons broaden at this beautifully restored lodge, infused with cultural accents from the art mecca of Santa Fe, and surrounded by wilderness waiting to be explored.”
NEED TO KNOW
If you’re travelling as a group, Bishop’s Lodge has a range of accommodation to suit. Complete with traditional adobe walling, kiva fireplaces and outdoor terraces, the four-bedroom casita sits alongside the tranquil trout stream and has two floors and mosaic-tiled bathrooms. MOZAMBIQUE BEAUTY

Azura Marlin Beach - Mozambique
Swirled by some of the Indian Ocean’s bluest and clearest waters, Bazaruto Archipelago is made up of glorious white-sand dusted islands, and it’s here that you’ll find Africa’s most rustic-luxe and laid-back beach scene. New to the tropical tableau is Azura Marlin Beach due to open later this year, owned by Azura Retreats who also own Azura Benguerra Island and Azura Quilalea.
Located on the southwest shore of Benguerra Island, Marlin Beach occupies a gorgeous sweep of one-kilometre-long beach, with just ten villas hidden in the soft landscapes of the sand dunes, opening out onto a wild yet pristine oceanfront. Facing the Indian Ocean, the villas benefit from extraordinary sunsets. Marlin Beach is the place to immerse yourself in all-natural escapades from dhow sailing and snorkelling trips to big game fishing and isolated island picnics. Spending time in your relaxed yet ultra-comfortable villa is a must too – the décor has been made deliberately light and fresh: think linen draped beds, nautical accents, rattan rugs and subtle Mozambique flair. And if there’s anything you need – a fruit cocktail, lobster lunch or African massage – just ask your butler.
“For beach lovers, Azura Marlin Beach is the perfect spot – opening out onto one of Mozambique’s most dazzling swathes of sand, which you can enjoy just steps from your breezy villa.”
NEED TO KNOW
We think Azura Marlin Beach will make an ideal stop after a safari in South Africa. Talk to us about a combination holiday which sees you spotting the Big Five before heading to the ultimate relaxed beach retreat. We’d recommend pairing with a small and intimate property in the Kruger such as Dulini, with flights directly from the Kruger to Mozambique.

Six Senses - Ibiza
The charm of Ibiza lies very much in the bohemian laid-back ambience that blows on the breeze, where local culture fuses with modern life and ancient customs form the backdrop to enlivening spiritual experiences. A new Six Senses hotel, located in the north of the island aims to channel this specific Ibizan energy into every guest’s experience, allowing you to connect with the island through its food, music, wellbeing, rural landscapes and stunning seascapes.
Tethered to the island by pretty Cala Xarraca, Six Senses Ibiza is a hidden away in the far northern tip of this Balearic isle. With a choice of accommodation, you can choose a suite with suntrap terrace or plump for a cave-like dwelling which takes inspiration from the caves which are sculpted into the nearby cliffs. With an emphasis on wellbeing, activities are big on experience – try a snorkelling meditation trip, a sunset sound gong, even cliff jumping! Learn more about the hotel’s agricultural heart at The Farm – admire the produce growing and join a cooking class. Or simply chill at the Beach Caves, a chic but relaxed shorefront lounge and restaurant which embraces island art and music with a celebratory vibe.
“Leave behind any misconceptions you might have about Ibiza, this stylish take on charming Balearic life makes the most of this spiritual land while offering a high level of service, luxury and experience.”
NEED TO KNOW
For an immersive experience at Six Senses Ibiza, consider enrolling in a multi-day retreat which taps into the vibrancy of the island whilst working on empowering the soul through a journey that might include detox, yoga, crystal healing or shamanic reinvigoration.
CAPRI REIMAGINED

Hotel La Palma - Capri
Those that have missed the classic hotels of Italy and its corresponding dolce vita will be delighted to hear of the renovation of Capri’s first hotel, La Palma, built in 1822 and currently being remodelled to a very high standard. Everything that the stylish Amalfi sun seeker needs, the hotel has in abundance, including a chic rooftop restaurant and bar, elegant suites with terraces and breath-taking views, a spa and sleek pool deck.
As well as these new additions, Hotel La Palma will channel the spirit of the original hotel, which welcomed artists, writers, and musicians from an international boho set. With its location mere steps from the famous golden-tinged Piazetta- the epicentre of life on Capri – the hotel aims to continue its social traditions, where guests can wander freely to the piazza, and browse the boutiques in the hotel and nearby. Those needing to be near Capri’s impossibly blue waters can head down to the hotel’s private beach club, a short drive away at Marina Piccola for sun-soaked days by the sea. We’d recommend returning to the hotel for sundowner o’clock though. The rooftop bar promises vast Aperol Spritzes and views over glittering Capri Village.
“There’s nothing quite like the old-school glamour of Capri, and Hotel La Palma looks set to be a great addition to the glitz and unashamed beauty of Italy’s Sorrento Peninsula.”
NEED TO KNOW
The hotel’s enviable position in the heart of Capri means it’s easy to access some of Capri’s sights such as the lush, terraced Gardens of Augustus, Certosa di San Giacomo’s monastery hewn into the cliff and the iridescent waters around the Blue Grotto. Don’t forget you can whizz back by speedboat to the Amalfi Coast too – lunch in Positano perhaps?
