Lyngen Lodge

Discover the wilds of Norway at luxe Lyngen Lodge, perfectly placed for awe-inspiring Arctic adventures.

Experience the Arctic in northern Norway where the Aurora Borealis shimmers overhead and cultural excursions in snow-dusted landscapes captivates curious travellers.

“Staying at Lyngen Lodge means an immersive experience in the surrounding snowy landscapes, where the deeply comfortable hotel becomes your gateway to cultural activities, outdoor fun, Northern Lights-hunting and plenty of time spent in the winter wonderland of Norway.”

Things to do

Dog sledding is a thrilling way to enjoy the great outdoors whilst learning about this traditional mode of transport. Taking place in the scenic Reisa Valley, you’ll meet the friendly dogs who will pull you into the forests and tundra of northern Norway, illuminated by the low Arctic sun. Learn how to drive your canine team with an encouraging ‘mush’ and enjoy lunch cooked over an open fire. Thrill-seekers can also enjoy skiing, snowboarding and snow-shoeing.

Exploring the frozen lakes is another must while you’re here. Arriving by speedy snowmobile to Rotsund lake is an exciting start, then you’ll have the chance to walk on the frozen lake before trying your hand at ice fishing. If you’re lucky, you’ll get to cook your freshly caught trout over a fire on the ice. Depending on conditions, explore the fjords, sea caves and towering rocks on a winter sea safari. Don’t forget to head out Aurora-hunting in the evening – sometimes you can see them from the hot tub at the lodge, or a short walk takes you to unpolluted skies, and a photography teacher is on hand to help you capture this extraordinary natural phenomenon.

Sleeping

Back at the lodge, it is comfort personified, which is exactly what you’ll need after a day in the icy wilds. As night closes in, head to your bedroom – a warm and cosy space, decorated in pared-back Scandi style with lots of natural materials: blond woods, sheepskin throws and woollen blankets. Pick between mountain or fjord views, where you can gaze at the landscapes that will set the scene for your next day’s adventure.

Food & Drink

Food is fabulous here – sample lots of regional ingredients at dinner such as king crab, smoked fish, foraged herbs and mushrooms, reindeer and lamb. Do as the locals do by fuelling up on fruit, nuts and cheese and meat platters for lunch. Evenings are a chance to sample the chef’s delectable creations with a three-course meal paired with fine wines from the cellar.

Our Top Tip

We’d recommend spending at least four nights here, which means you’ll be able to do three activities, as each experience often takes up to four or five hours as you delve deep into the wilds of the Arctic. Consider staying at Lyngen Lodge as the finale to an incredible five-day trip exploring the fjords of Norway from Bergen to Tromsø on a luxury cruise.

Best For

Families (over 12s only in winter) and couples who enjoy exploratory, active holidays will be keen to discover a new part of the world. Young teens will love the frozen realm of Norway while adults will find activities in this winter wonderland to be a refreshing panacea to modern life.

The Verdict

When in the wilds of Norway, the stress of life simply falls away, replaced by a resolute calm that only comes with deep immersion in nature. Spending four days at Lyngen Lodge will certainly be enough – but a week will have you returning feeling fully refreshed.
