Flavours of Santorini

Characterised by volcanic rock, whitewashed villages and simply jaw-dropping views onto the caldera, Santorini is one of the Cyclades’ most dramatically beautiful islands.

Santorini’s exquisite charm has not gone unnoticed and today it ranks as one of Greece’s most popular island getaways with a sophisticated food and dining scene to match. However, we know Santorini’s secrets – we can guide you to the most exclusive experiences, under-the-radar wineries, the best table at a world-class restaurant and hideaway spots where you can have uninterrupted Aegean views, all to yourself.

“On a recent trip to Santorini I was captivated by the island’s natural drama and epic caldera vistas. Although the sunsets are magical – Santorini is so much more than this. The trick is to go where others aren’t – and this is where my expertise comes in - I can arrange a trip that allows you to experience an exclusive side to Santorini, far from the crowds. Read on for some of my recommendations.”

Where To Stay

“Santorini’s sunsets are some of the best in the world – experience it from the seclusion of your own private terrace with an ice-cold glass of champagne"

Seductive Santorini has an array of boutique, five-star hotels to stay in and the very best will ensure you have a front row seat to the caldera, meaning you can enjoy spectacular volcanic cauldron views from sunrise to mesmerising sunset in total privacy. Nobu Santorini, that sits in between Imerovigli and Oia, has its own unobstructed panorama, villas with private pools plus a blissful cave-like spa.

We also love Domes Novos Santorini – a design-led hotel that steps away from the white-washed Cycladic style and instead uses clean lines and terracotta hues to merge the hotel into the topography. Domes Novos’ other great draw is its rooftop restaurant Vatanee where gastronomic fine dining characterises the menus.

Where to Eat

Although Greek cuisine is often not as highly lauded as Italian or French, you’ll find a wide array of impressive tastes and flavours on the island, with a raft of innovative chefs breaking boundaries on tradition Cycladic recipes.

We love Lycabettus restaurant, not just for the logic-defying terrace that seemingly juts out into the Aegean, affording panoramic sea views, but for Chef Christos Karagiannis’ masterful way with lavish ingredients such as lobster, Wagyu beef and squid. We also recommend Panigyri, located in Santorini’s capital Fira. Panigyri is the place to savour seasonal Greek food plus there’s a delectable vegan menu and olive oil sommelier.

Where to Taste Wine

Santorini is known for its successful viticulture and is home to some of the world’s oldest vines, grown productively in the volcanic soil using unique, basket-shaped ‘kouloura’ vines which keep the hot Cycladic sun and wind at bay, but collect moisture at night. The dominant grape is assyrtiko, which produces a dry white as well as a fortified sweet wine known as vinsanto.

Let us arrange a private tour of the best wineries in Santorini, enjoying a personalised wine tasting of the island’s rarest wines alongside meeting wine producers at their estates and touring vineyards and cellars. We’d recommend including Artemis Winery as well as sustainable producer Domaine Sigalas. State-of-the-art boutique winery Vassaltis is a must, to try their world-class wines including the delightfully bubbly petillant naturel.

What To Do

Get a closer look at Santorini and its caldera on a luxury private yacht that sails the coastline past red, black and white beaches. Stop by a secluded, wild bay for a solitary swim and snorkel, enjoying peaceful and dramatic surroundings. Sail onwards to Santorini’s volcano and small volcanic islands where you can find hidden hot springs before chef prepares an early evening barbecue on board.

For something different, take a visit to an organic brewery in Fira. Sample Ftelos’ latest concoction or try your hand at making your own beer. The brewery restaurant Malt is surprisingly good – stop by for sophisticated takes on Greek classics. Ready to be seduced by Santorini?
