A Flawless Combination

South Africa & Mozambique - Two wildly contrasting locations, one seamless holiday, where you can stay in two enviably located properties that offer the same exquisite levels of service and attention to detail.

Picture the orange glow of the sun setting over the African savannah as you hear the distant roar of a lion. Then imagine being transported, the bush replaced by dazzling white sand as the sounds of wildlife fade out to the gentle lap of waves on the shore.

This is the best of safari in South Africa blended with the tropical paradise that is Mozambique.

"The connections are fluid and fast. A short flight from the Kruger followed by a helicopter hop from the mainland across the turquoise Indian Ocean to Benguerra Island is like the beginning of a dream sequence"

Introducing Royal Malewane Waterside, located in a private concession of the Greater Kruger. Due to its vast size and prolific wildlife, spotting the Big Five in Kruger is not difficult, but add in the most highly qualified guiding team in Africa and your experience becomes much more immersive.

The guiding team at Royal Malewane operate in pairs, with trackers riding right on the front of the game viewing vehicles – able to spot the faintest of footprints. Together with your guide, they will engage you in the secrets of the savannah.

Likewise, when back at the lodge, the team work symbiotically: front of house ensure that the right brand of gin is at that the perfect temperature for your sundowner drinks, while the chef whips up a culinary storm in the kitchen.

“The property has eschewed safari minimalism and instead opted for a decadent ‘why not’ attitude to hosting.”

Waterside is the latest addition to the Royal Portfolio collection, their signature style has colourful, sometimes bold furnishings and phenomenal attention to detail ensuring enough safari vibe to give you a sense of place, while at the same time revelling in luxury. Being seasoned safari lodge owners, they have a formidable reputation for correctly second guessing what makes a place transcend from the very best to the utterly unforgettable.

After a safari of this calibre, a parallel Eden on a Mozambican Island awaits. There are just twenty villas at Azura Benguerra, two of which are great for families; Villa Amizade has two bedrooms and the Presidential Villa comes with three bedrooms, sleeping up to six.

Private infinity pools and expansive living quarters are de rigeur at both, but it’s the effortless style and the excellent service which really make them stand out.

Manicured yet rustic thatched roofs keep the heat out of the contemporary styled villas, floating linen drapes ripple in the afternoon breeze and it’s less than a hop and a skip onto a white powder beach looking out onto countless shades of turquoise.

Privacy is a byword for respect at Azura and with so much space at your disposal, the notion of being cramped or competing with other guests for space or attention is totally alien to their ethos. This follows through with regards to dining, a delectable affair with meals served in the restaurant, privately in your villa or in a romantic, secluded spot.

"The sense of isolation and raw beauty of the island is a rare treat, something akin to a castaway fantasy"

As befits an island retreat, days are spent exploring the warm waters and the impossibly pretty beaches.

The scuba diving and snorkelling is some of the best in the world; whales migrate straight past the island and beyond are shoals of colourful reef fish and the deeper waters are home to sailfish and marlin.

Set sail at sunset on Azura’s dhow for sundowners on a sand bank, ride horses along the shore, head out on a guided drive to explore the island or take a stroll along the beach to the new Peri Peri Beach Club for crab casquinhas, something from the charcoal grill or your favourite drink from the mixology menu.

Or simply soak up relaxation.
