The United Arab Emirates or UAE is a federation of seven Emirates or principalities, the best known are Dubai and Abu Dhabi which are a lure for those wishing to take luxury holidays. There are also some excellent beaches and luxury hotels in Ras Al Khaimah.
There are many 5 star hotels in Dubai, as well as the world's tallest skyscraper the Burg Khalifa, but there is much more to Dubai than luxury buildings. There are amazing modern shopping centres and traditional souks, plus excellent nightlife and some of the best names in world cuisine, entertainment and music have set up residence in Dubai. Outside of the city there are the excellent beaches and also the vast desert landscape which is easily explored.
Abu Dhabi is by far the largest of the Emirates and the city itself is the capital of the country. Many would describe Abu Dhabi as the slightly more reserved sibling when compared with Dubai. Just of its coast lies Saadiyat Island, where there are some first rate luxury hotels along the protected and pristine coastline and development is underway for a cultural area with Louvre and Guggenheim museums, a marina with boutique hotels and many other luxury developments. Outside the city of Abu Dhabi, is the vast Liwa Desert, known as Abu Dhabi's Empty Quarter and it is just that bar the foreboding landscape and a some indulgent 5 star hotels.
Ras al Khaimah is probably the smallest of the luxury destinations. It has a rich cultural and historical part which is still in evidence.
