A walk of hope

India

Join the Salaam Balaak Trust for a fascinating private guided walk through the alleyways around New Delhi railway station. Led by children who used to live on these streets, it’s a great opportunity to learn about a unique aspect of Delhi life while also contributing to a worthy cause.

Explore historic houses and unseen backstreets while hearing personal stories of struggle and survival from the children, who are now fully qualified guides keen to improve their communication skills. You’ll finish with a visit to the NGO’s shelter and outreach programme, which the walks help to fund, established to provide a safe environment and education for the children.

The city tour is an example of how a volunteer’s creativity can translate into a unique and enduring programme, which is both popular and economically viable. Over the last seven years, thousands have taken the walk and empowered many children, helping them to join mainstream life.
