Set on the west coast of Pemba Island just north of Zanzibar, Fundu Lagoon is an escapist fantasy overlooking miles of white beach, crystal clear waters and pristine coral reefs. London designer Ellis Flyte spent six years searching for the site and building this sophisticated yet stylishly simple retreat. The result of her patience is a creation of subtle perfection. With large walk-in tents on wooden decks, offering spacious accommodation inside and out, the designer's sure touch is reflected throughout, with each bungalow boasting an en suite panelled bathroom stocked with sumptuous skincare products and linen bathrobes. The rooms are connected to the main buildings by sand and wooden walkways. Six of the rooms are suites which have their own private chill out deck and plunge pool. Despite its remoteness, indulgent luxuries like the exquisite food, either in the restaurant or privately on a candlelit beach belie its position. A full inventory of water sports include a superb PADI dive centre, dhow cruises, canoe safaris and snorkelling for the adventurous, while a pool, as well as a massage and treatment room which are perfect for essential unwinding and relaxation.
