The Mekong River originates high in the Tibetan plateau and flows out into the South China Sea crossing the Mekong Delta in Vietnam on its way. The Delta vibrates with the colour of fruit orchards, sugar cane plantations, coconut groves and fish farms. However, it is the emerald green rice paddies tended by farmers in conical hats that are the life line of the country. A boat trip through the towns of Chau Doc, with its houses floating on empty metal drums with fish nets suspended beneath, and Can Tho, with houses built on stilts and waterways full of colourful floating markets, which offer a glimpse into the life of Vietnam’s agricultural workforce whose daily toil feeds the nation.
