Hanoi, with its French colonial architecture and bustling old quarter is home the ancient citadel, Ho Chi Minh’s Mausoleum and the Ho Chi Minh Museum. The One Pillar Pagoda, built by Emperor Ly Thai Tong in gratitude for the birth of his son and the Temple of Literature dedicated to Confucius bring together local culture and unique architecture, while modern arts thrive at the Opera House and the nearby water puppet shows. The old imperial capital of Hue is home to the ancient citadel, a reminder of the influence of thirteen Emperors of the Nguyen Dynasty, with palaces and temples within its huge walls. Along the banks of the Perfume River, the extravagant tombs of the Kings tell a sad story of pride and jealousy.
