Kuala Lumpur is strewn with markets, temples, historic mosques and the elegant colonial buildings in Merdeka Square. Historical buildings sit alongside stunning examples of modern architecture, the key sights being The Masjid Negara, the National Mosque, and the famous Petronas Towers. Further north and to the east, Kuala Terengganu offers the best of Malay crafts and performing arts while the nearby Taman Negara National Park has a high canopy walkway and numerous trails through the world’s oldest rainforest. At Kuala Dungun, the alfresco night markets provide the opportunities for bargaining and just offshore is Tenggol island, known for its tropical vegetation, pristine beaches and rare coral gardens, a haven for divers.
