The 9th century vast Buddhist temple of Borobudur is a colossal multi-tiered stupa lying at the end of a four kilometre long chain of temples and the three metre, seventy kilo Komodo Dragon lizard, unchanged since pre-historic times, bring together these almost unfathomable sites unique to the Indonesian islands. The ancient capital of Yogyakarta is a cultural centre for classical Javanese arts including dance, music and poetry. The Gili Islands and the aquatic nature reserve of Moyo are acclaimed diving and snorkelling sites renowned for their spectacular underwater biodiversity, while Bintan cannot be beaten for beaches.
