Cruising down the Nile between Luxor and Aswan offers an amazing insight into a unique civilisation. Built on the ancient city of Thebes, the vast temples of Luxor and Karnak encapsulate a bygone era. Thebes was home to virtually all of the New Kingdom Pharaohs many of whom, including Tutankhamun, were buried in tombs and temples in the Valleys of the Kings and Queens. The Temple of Queen Hatshepsut is one of the finest monuments of ancient Egypt. Aswan is perfect for relaxing by the Nile, watching feluccas glide by at sunset. Further south at Abu Simbal lies the awesome Great Temple of Ramses II, which is arguably Egypt’s most stunning monument.
