Costa Rica, barely the size of Wales, is home to more varied forests, wetlands, mangroves and coral reefs than the entire United States. Hugely varying temperatures, altitudes and rainfall have led to an amazing array of bio-diversity and forest environments from the rare tropical dry forest in the arid north to the tropical wet forest of the southern lowlands. Mountainside cloud forests such as Monteverde are home to puma and quetzal and are the perfect destination whether for young families or the most sophisticated naturalist travellers. Volcano trekking, superb riding, more sedate bird watching, mountain biking, river rafting, sea kayaking, surfing and fishing are just some of the pursuits in this natural adventure playground.
