Beaches fringe the coastline of Costa Rica and appear in many places as if they are being pushed into the sea by virgin rainforest. Some sands are volcanic and black whilst others offer golden sands and calmer seas. Uniquely, five species of marine turtle, including the leatherback at up to five metres in length, travel annually as far as 2,000 kilometres to their breeding grounds before laying their eggs on the shores of Costa Rica. It can therefore be a privilege to share beaches in this splendid natural setting. Boat rides open the door to a whole new environment, as seasonal whale, dolphin and flying fish may accompany any voyage.
