The capital Santiago is the gateway to the famous Maipo Valley, the heart of the wine lands and home to the renowned Santa Rita vineyard. Throughout its valleys this lush fertile region produces many fine New World wines. A seductive drive from Santiago through the Andean foothills leads to some of the best skiing in South America throughout the European summertime. Little villages with spectacular views give way to towering mountains, pure sky and an abundance of snow. Skiing in resorts perched on mountain peaks is a perfect way to enjoy the Andes from the inside out.
