One of the most famous towns in the state of Manitoba is the tiny port of Churchill on the shores of the Hudson Bay, known as the Polar Bear Capital of the world. Every autumn the tundra surrounding the town is a stopover for more than a thousand migrating bear on their way to the hunting fields of the Hudson Bay. Every day you are taken on especially converted tundra buggies. From here you have the opportunity for some incredible close up encounters with these inquisitive creatures. The town itself is intriguing with wonderful craft shops and friendly locals who love to explain about their way of life in a town accessed by only plane of a 36 hour train journey from Winnipeg.

Sample Manitoba itinerary
DAY 1 – 2 Fly to Churchill
Fly to Winnipeg, receive an orientation dinner & start to learn about the bears & their behaviour. The following day fly to Churchill which will be the base while in the north
DAY 3 – 5 Bear Watching on the Tundra
Explore the tundra on polar buggies, a fantastic chance to watch these magnificent animals from the warmth & comfort of these fully equipped vehicles. Look out for mothers & cubs as well as young adult males play-fighting. Each evening there is a presentation on the wildlife & local culture & one evening will be spent on the tundra watching the night’s activities
DAY 6 – 7 Return Journey
The flights are scheduled to depart in the afternoon giving as much time as possible in Churchill to explore & enjoy this remote & intriguing town or even to take a helicopter ride over the tundra. After breakfast at the hotel in Winnipeg transfer back to the airport for the flight home
