Traditional cantilevered bridges reach across valleys and mountain passes to towns scattered with temples, ancient altars and Buddhist monasteries. None are more imposing than Taktsang, a highly revered monastery built on a sheer cliff face or the magnificent Punakha Dzong which boasts twenty-one temples in a single courtyard and a Great Assembly Hall raised up on one-hundred pillars.
