Buenos Aires, the Paris of the South, is perhaps the most cosmopolitan city in South America with a self-confident style and dauntless personality. Full of contrasts and tradition it is made up of forty or so barrios or villages within the city, themselves populated by diverse Europeans over some 200 years and more. The mix of modern and nostalgic neighbourhoods has forged an exciting and dynamic city that offers Philippe Starck design alongside the faded elegance of its Belle Epoque colonial architecture. The artists’ quarter of La Boca, the extravagant Colon Opera House and the tango houses of San Telmo are just some of the historic landmarks that are well complimented by distinguished restaurants and luxurious boutique hotels.
