In the heart of the remote and beautiful South Luangwa Valley where walking safaris were first pioneered, the Bushcamp Company has five very different but equally inviting camps all within walking distance of each other. Perfect for couples or small groups of up to eight guests, the Bushcamp experience is entirely tailored to individual preferences. If trees and birds are the thing, then the safari will be geared in that direction, if big cats are the ticket, then they will be the focus. Depending on the quarry, the thrill and anticipation of a walking or 4x4 safari remains the same; however, as one old safari hand said, ‘in a vehicle you see Africa, on foot you feel, hear and smell Africa’.
The five rustic but beautifully designed camps are Kuyenda, a traditional and stylish bushcamp, Chamilandu, a recently renovated raised river camp, Chendeni, a luxurious raised tented camp by an ox-bow lagoon, Bilimungwe, an upmarket trails camp and Kapamba, the newest edition. kapamba is unique as it is the only camp that remains open until the end of December. In each the hospitality is utterly beguiling, matched by the magnificence of the scenery and quality of the game viewing both around and sometimes within the camps themselves.
