Zambia

Referred to as the 'real Africa' by those in the know, Zambia is one of the continent's most beautiful and unspoilt safari destinations. It is home to an exceptional variety of wildlife, superb birdlife and an array of accommodation ranging from award winning luxury lodges to simple mobile tented camps.

Zambia offers not only excellent safari opportunities but also access to the thrills of Victoria Falls. Long acknowledged as home of the walking safari, the Luangwa Valley is the perfect back drop for Robin Pope's legendary mobile safaris. One of Africa's leading guides, Robin's immaculately organised expeditions range through some of the most remote areas and are based around three camps which merit rave reviews.

The Lower Zambezi National Park is in an area of outstanding natural beauty, a haven for wildlife and home to the luxurious Bedouin-style tents, personal butlers and gourmet cuisine of lodges such as Sausage Tree. Closer to Victoria Falls, a handful of stunning riverside properties such as The Royal Livingstone Hotel offer excellent accommodation, sundowner cruises and bird watching. In contrast Tangala, a stunning private house on the Zambezi and Sindabezi, a tiny, secluded island lodge in the middle of the river offer limitless opportunities for adventure and relaxation.Shiwa House in northern Zambia harks back to colonial times, with its country house atmosphere and range of relaxing pursuits.
