Deep in the Western Rift Valley, the Semliki Wildlife Reserve is a prime conservation area. Semliki Safari Lodge is the only accommodation in over 500 square kilometres of wilderness, offering a truly private experience. The lodge has won accolades for its contribution towards the region's conservation efforts and in conjunction with the Wildlife Authority and the surrounding communities the lodge has helped revive the park to its former glory. Built out of local materials, it has a rustic but comfortable feel. Each of the eight large luxury thatched canvas tents has plenty of lounging space, en suite bathrooms and hand-carved four-poster beds draped in muslin, all with private verandas and stunning panoramic views. The food here is excellent and everything is home-made, from the bread and breakfast muffins baked daily, to the soups, relishes and chutneys. While here guests may choose to do nothing but relax by the pool taking in the spectacular views of the Blue Mountains of the Congo, alternatively you can indulge in a number of activities such as night or day game drives, bush and forest walks, boat activities on Lake Albert, chimp tracking, guided walks and hiking, fishing, birdwatching and visits to the nearby Pygmy village. For ornithologists, the chance of spotting the rare shoebill stork is one of the lodge’s main attractions.
