Uganda

Uganda, with its unique blend of savannah, rainforest and waterways joins with Rwanda across the Virunga Mountains to bring together the world's two premier primate viewing destinations. Untouched by mass tourism these countries are ideal retreats for eco-tourists in search of an exceptional experience. There are magnificent sights to take in, such as huge herds of elephant and buffalo at Kidepo Valley National Park, the Nile's hippos and exotic birds and the flamingos, tropical rainforest and salt lakes of Queen Elizabeth National Park.

A visit to Uganda is not complete without taking in the Virunga Mountains, the range of six extinct and three active volcanoes which straddle the border between Uganda, Rwanda and The Democratic Republic of the Congo. These are also home to another of Uganda's main attractions - approximately 300 wild Mountain Gorilla, most of which only move around half a mile a day. Living for up to 50 years, these highly sociable animals live in troops consisting of a silver back male, his female companions and several young.
