The Turks & Caicos Islands, long considered as the most beautiful and unspoilt in the region, were elevated to stellar heights when famed Amanresorts opened its first Caribbean hotel. Since then, Aman junkies have flocked to its fabled shores.
The resort, whose name is derived from a combination of the Sanskrit word for ‘peace’ and the Arawak Indians’ word for ‘place’, does indeed have a very tranquil and undisturbed setting on the northwest point of Providenciales.
As with all Aman resorts, Amanyara is designed to be in complete harmony with the surrounding environment, blending in with striking rocky headlands that create shaded outdoor areas and merging with a sweeping white, sandy beach. Its 40 contemporary timber shingled pavilions have low overhanging rooflines that converge with the landscape and huge glass doors that open on three sides to catch cooling breezes. Some offer expansive sea views or private 12 metre lap pools, others look out onto tranquil lush natural vegetation. Three terraces outside each pavilion offer inviting day beds and an intimate sunken table, giving a hint as to what the alluring interiors offer; a raised king-size bed swathed in extravagant linen, with high ceilings and plenty of space. As one would expect from an Aman resort, the bathrooms are legendary. Separated from the bedroom and sitting area by a decorative wooden screen, they feature elegant free-standing bathtubs, ottomans and generous shower rooms. Twenty private fully staffed three, four or five bedroom villas, offering the height of luxury, are located along the oceanfront or nestled in island vegetation.
A choice of naturally cool, open-sided or air-conditioned restaurant areas serve a delicious choice of Mediterranean and Asian fare with an emphasis on fresh locally caught seafood. Renowned Aman hospitality, world-class bonefishing, snorkelling and diving, tennis, a trip to the fitness centre or a round of golf on the island’s 18 hole championship course will rejuvenate even the most stressed city dweller.
If fishing or golf do not appeal, Amanyara has a team of skilled spa therapists waiting to restore guests’ inner peace at the resort’s Serenity Villa spa and wellness facility.
No wonder it is difficult to leave the beautiful little island of Providenciales and its perfect Aman resort.
