The Grenadines

A favourite with the rich and famous, passing yachties and others looking for ideal water sports conditions, the Grenadines comprises 32 islands and cays stretching south from St. Vincent. Only eight of the islands are populated, the rest are mainly bird sanctuaries or used for hikes and dives.

Bequia, the largest island in the chain, known as 'The Jewel of the Grenadines', is attractively quaint without being twee. Famed in the past for its shipbuilding, whaling and piracy, it is popular today with the yachting fraternity and with those seeking escapist holidays.

The tiny island of Mustique, with its safe warm waters, varied terrain and amazing views, is a private island with a difference. Offering a huge range of private homes for rental as well as the famous Cotton House Hotel, the island is the epitome of laid back Caribbean chic.

Then there is Canouan, a crescent-shaped island surrounded by wide shallows and coral that is a scuba diver's dream. It also has a wealth of excellent beaches and unspoilt scenery. Other islands you can visit include Union Island with its Tahiti like dramatic ridges and peaks; Palm Island with Casvarina, one of the finest beaches in the Grenadines; Petit St. Vincent, a favourite anchorage and race venue for yachts and privately owned Mayreau.

The Grenadines is a great place to visit for those in the know.
