Erstwhile haunt of Jackie Onassis the Orient-Express La Samanna is an elegant Mediterranean style hideaway set on the French Caribbean island of St Martin lying on a mile long stretch of perfect beach and fifty-five acres of gardens.
A renovation programme has given rooms a facelift, from the ocean view guest rooms to the secluded beachfront villas. For honeymooners, the new Romance Suite with a private plunge pool, al fresco dining area and views of the sea cannot be beaten.
Foodies will be in heaven with a choice of venues from the new Beach Bar, Le Bistro, the poolside bar and Champagne Bar and the hotel’s famous wine cellar which houses over 10,000 bottles of wine.
The beach is reputedly one of the most beautiful in the world and is complemented by an enormous swimming pool, the Caribbean’s first Pilates studio, a fully equipped fitness pavilion and three floodlit tennis courts.
Water sports are easily arranged, whilst for spa fans, the Elysee Spa is a taste of heaven, with technicians trained in Paris and indoor and outdoor treatment rooms.
To call this fabulous hotel a tropical paradise may be a cliché, but it is pretty accurate. Jackie O knew a thing or two about style and La Samanna takes it one step further.
