East Winds Inn

Small and intimate, this Caribbean hideaway is, according to the Financial Times, ‘full of tropical character and about as far from a typical Caribbean resort as you could imagine’. Its small size means it has a boutique feel and a personal touch.

Set in 12 hectares of tropical gardens harbouring more than 100 different species of plant, East Winds is low key and informal yet at the same time elegant and very private. It lies on the West Coast of St Lucia in one of the island’s best bays, a palm fringed crescent of soft sand sheltered by a coral reef that is home to a vast array of marine life.

Scattered throughout the grounds are 30 charming rooms housed in gorgeous, single storey, semidetached chalet style cottages and rondavels. Stylish, modern furnishings that include enormous beds dressed with crisp, fine cottons, clean fresh colours, cool tiled floors and mini-bar stocked daily with soft drinks maintain a wonderfully inviting atmosphere inside. Private terraces outside each room, with views of the garden or sea, are excellent for relaxing in the heat of the day.

The cuisine at East Winds Inn is excellent. Fresh fish and lobster are brought to the beach by passing fishermen and transformed by the award-winning French chef using fresh local herbs, vegetables and fruits into delectable dishes, complemented by carefully chosen wines. The cooking style draws its origins from international and Caribbean influences and is always much appreciated by guests dining in the atmospheric beachfront restaurant.

Active guests will enjoy walks around the gardens or guided treks through the rainforest and the new additions to the property which include a nature fitness track and a yoga pavilion with classes. For water lovers there is the freeform pool with its swim-up bar or the powdery beach with its kayaks and pedaloes, tranquil waters and coral reef.
