Humming with 50s Hollywood glamour the Relais & Châteaux Eden Rock in St Barths, has two spectacular villas.
Set on a picturesque outcrop jutting into St Jean Bay with panoramic views over turquoise seas and two perfect beaches, this bewitching hotel opened in the 1950s and was taken over by David and Jane Matthews in 1995. Filling it with antiques, the Matthews have maintained the private and privileged atmosphere that has consistently attracted the incrowd over the years.
With a total of just 32 suites and 2 villas, Eden Rock is quirky and intimate. In the original hotel, Provençal style accommodation tumbles down to the water's edge and are angled to make the most of stunning views of the ecru sands. Frequently used by the actress herself, The Greta Garbo Suite with its much photographed rock terrace. While even the smallest room, a replica of a ship's cabin, is utterly charming. Along the beach, there are contemporary beach rooms and suites as well as the two secluded villas with swimming pools.
With its French heritage, St Barths is gastronomic heaven and Eden Rock's two restaurants produce some of the best drinks and food in the Caribbean, where famous chef Jean George is the head chef for both the Sand Bar and On-The-Rocks. Eden Rock provides all the usual water sports, pool and spa services are available in guest suites. Young, sexy, sophisticated and more Cannes than Caribbean, this is definitely the place to be seen.
