A feeling of space, exploration and nature is what Desroches Island offers more than any other. Located some 230 kilometres southwest of Mahé in the Amirantes Archipelago, Desroches is a virgin coral island with 14 kilometres of beaches and dazzling night skies free from light pollution.
Now under new management of luxury lodge operator Seasons in Africa, a fresh safari style approach to hospitality has meant several changes. Firstly the resort is now all inclusive allowing dining anywhere, whether in the restaurant, at the beach or in the privacy of your own room. The food is incredible and the service attentive, yet subtle. The other change to Desroches is the extension of the resort to include a luxury villa development. The existing 20 suites have been uplifted with the emphasis on comfort with new sofas, flat screen TVs and lighter decor. The new development of 26 deluxe four bedroom pool villas has resulted in impressive villa options for families or for small groups of friends. These come with private butler, an extensive indoor and outdoor lounge with entertainment system, kitchen bar and fully equipped kitchen, four bedrooms indoor and outdoor showers and freestanding bath. In the central courtyard is an infinity pool leading down onto the garden and beach.
Delicious island cuisine is served in the thatched restaurant on chunky wooden tables set over the sand while a convivial bar provides a perfect combination of island chic and laid back cool. A beach bar offers casual dining by the sea, and the brand new fishing clubhouse bar is a great place to relive those nautical moments. Also, as each guest is given a bicycle to explore the island, the restaurant staff will prepare a picnic lunch should guests wish to ride out to a beach of their own.
In addition to the divine beaches, the biggest draw for a visitor to Desroches is its abundant marine life, providing world class diving and fishing. Explore the Desroches Drop-Off and do a fishing excursion to the nearby Amirante islands of Poivre, St. Joseph's and D'Arros, taking in various big-game fishing methods and saltwater fly fishing. Whether guests chose to stay in a suite or villa, Desroches offers something for everyone and it is no wonder that it has such loyal clients.
