Virunga Lodge lies in a dramatic hillside location, with 360-degree views of the Virunga volcanoes and Lakes Ruhondo and Bulera. The eight comfortable chalets have en suite safari-style bathrooms and verandas with terrific views. There are wonderful hot bush showers to revive guests after gorilla trekking. For a chance of seeing one of the four habituated families in the vicinity, trekking through terraced hillsides, the foothills of the volcanoes and forested mountainsides is inspiration in itself while the joy of seeing gorilla in their natural habitat is awe-inspiring. In addition, searching for the endangered golden monkey, climbing volcanic peaks, visiting the remains of Dian Fossey’s research centre and strolling through picturesque villages near the lakes are a must to complete this extraordinary and wonderful experience.
