The new Bela Vista Hotel could not boast a better location on the Algarve. Situated directly on the stunning Praia da Rocha beach, this boutique hotel of just 38 rooms and suites offers not only a beautiful view, as the name suggests, but also the opportunity for guests to walk out onto the sand.
The building has belonged to the same Portuguese family since the 19th century and originally opened as an hotel in 1934. Now after a complete renovation it reopened in 2011, aiming to provide traditional hospitality where guests feel at home from the moment they walk through the doors.
The hotel comprises three distinct houses. The original hotel, called the Palacete, built in 1918 houses the reception, the traditional inside bar with strong flavours of the past, the restaurant with its large terrace and the pool side with its ideal lounge bar and restaurant. The Blue House, or rather Casa Azul, faces the beach of Praia da Rocha and most rooms offer ocean views. The Garden House, a new addition, offers 20 rooms, with either terrace or gardens. All rooms and suites have been designed in a modern and elegant style, yet with a clear acknowledgement of the history and Portuguese origins.
The Hotel’s gourmet restaurant boasts a large terrace overlooking the ocean and the original bar inside the Palacete is intimate and charming. A bar and lounge restaurant around the pool combines ocean views and a sense of wellbeing. The chef specialises in modern cuisine based on the regional roots of Algarve and Portuguese tastes. On warm summer evenings, guests can dine alfresco, with the scent of blossom on the evening air and the soothing sound of the waves on the beach below. The bar provides a relaxing environment for aperitifs or post-dinner drinks, with the terrace offering the chance for a romantic soiree as the sun sets to the west.
In 2012 a new spa with five treatment rooms and natural products by L’Occitane will open, the perfect addition to enhance a stay in this beautiful beachfront hotel.
For those looking to explore the local area, nearby is the stylish city of Portimao, one of the largest towns of the western Algarve and a great place for shopping. Alternatively, a visit to a market in one of the nearby villages or towns is a delightful experience. If sailing is more your thing then the marinas in Lagos, Portimao and Praia da Rocha are the places to go.
