Dar Ahlam means 'House of Dreams' and this extravagantly renovated 19th-century Kasbah based at Skoura, the gateway to the Southern Moroccan desert, is certainly a welcome oasis.
Hidden from view by palm groves, Dar Ahlam sits among beautiful gardens with a T-shaped stone pool surrounded by date palms and olive trees, outdoor massage tents and a mosaic Jacuzzi and hammam, all designed by French landscape architect Louis Benech.
Within the walls of the kasbah are eight suites, while three private villas and one suite stand in the grounds. The air-conditioned rooms are all decorated in an extravagant yet homely style with unusual antiques and silk. The spacious bathrooms are well stocked with goodies. The garden suite boasts two terraces while the villas, built around a central patio, offer a separate living room, terrace with outdoor fireplace and private heated pool. There are no TVs or telephones but gazing at the amazing views should provide sufficient distraction.
An extensive menu covers all manner of culinary delights, from traditional Moroccan specialities through to innovative modern dishes, while an extraordinarily talented French patisserie creates mouth watering desserts. You could also take a Champagne picnic to the Valley of Roses with the hotels excellent guide. Alternatively, there are four wheel drives to the desert to gaze at the stars.
This place really is the stuff that dreams are made of.
