Known locally as the Pearl of Montenegro, the small island of Sveti Stefan is home to one of the newest Aman retreats, Aman Sveti Stefan.
Located on the coast south of Budva, the resort incorporates two kilometres of coastline including the pink sandy beaches of Sveti Stefan, Milocer Beach and the famous Queen’s Beach. The resort is split into two parts, the spectacular former fishing village on the island which sits out along the coastline and Villa Milocer on the mainland.
Access to the island itself is reserved for Aman guests only, thus giving any guest a unique experience to tread the historic cobbled streets of the island. Each of the 50 rooms has fantastic views over the sea or the countryside, rooftops or quaint courtyards and piazzas. No two rooms here are the same, just as one would expect from a place which evolved from a 15th century fortress. The jewel in the crown, the Sveti Stefan Suite has its own private swimming pool. While the historic exterior remains largely unaltered from its past, priority in designing the interiors was given to preserving the original walls and to reminding guests of the village’s origins. Furniture was designed especially for the island and much of the detailing, from the latches to the doors and windows, is based on what would have been on the island originally.
Villa Milocer, the former summer residence of Queen Marija Karadordevic, sits on the beach and is separate from the island. The villa comprises six spacious suites and two Queen Marija Suites. The six suites harmoniously blend a subtle palette of creams and browns with luxurious touches and parquet floors. The Queen Marija Suites, housed in a separate structure, feature four separate rooms as well as Juliet balconies.
The island of Sveti Stefan itself offers diverse dining options in a uniquely atmospheric setting, The Piazza. This open air square is the heart and soul of the island’s village setting featuring a number of dining venues including a taverna, an enoteca, a pasticceria, an antipasti bar and a cigar room. On the mainland are three other dining venues: Queen’s Chair, Olive Restaurant and the Beach Café. At Villa Milocer, the Dining Room, Loggia and the Living Room offer simple, elegant menus driven by fresh produce and locally caught seafood.
Beach lovers will be in paradise with a choice of four beaches, two of which are private for Aman guests only. Aman Sveti Stefan is a unique experience and for those who are lucky enough to stay here, they will surely be left longing to return.
