The island of Dhuni Kolhu in the Baa Atoll just thirty minutes by seaplane from Malé, the resort has magnificent views over turquoise waters to nearby coral islands. The waters skirting the lagoon are diving heaven as they are home to manta ray; dolphin, shark and whale shark. Inside the lagoon exceptional snorkelling, sailing, windsufing, and water skiing are also available. Tennis, volleyball, badminton and line fishing are some of the many activities on offer, as well as visits to a local village, to experience the colours and flavours of Maldivian culture. For those wanting privacy there are many romantic options such as a movie for two under the stars projected onto a beached dhoni sail, or a picnic on a desert island.
Despite the many exciting things to do the luxurious villas, many with private splash pools, sunken or spa baths, private gardens or over water sunbathing decks, are captivating. Inside each villa are either king size or four poster beds with the finest cotton, hand crafted wood and rattan furniture and the deliberate absence of TVs. Beach and Deluxe Villas are set in lush vegetation just back from the beach with sea views, while Lagoon Villas and Lagoon Palace Suites allow swimming in beautiful azure waters straight from the villa.
In villa dining is a popular option, but then so is a candlelit table on the beach or one of the international restaurants. The Cowrie Restaurant has a mix of European and Asian cuisine, while the Corneus Restaurant specialises in seafood either grilled or flavoured with Oriental and Maldivian spices. The Lounge and Conch bars offer a wide selection of international brand wines, spirits and cocktails and are perfect for sundowners or post-dinner drinks.
The Coco Spa, like all aspects of a stay at Dhuni Kolhu, is a totally sensory experience with all natural treatments including Elemis products that draw on Asian methods. To be active, or not to be active, that is the question on Dhuni Kolhu.
